Clay County Anti- Drug Coalition
Est. 2010
Community Initiatives:
Over the years, we worked tirelessly alongside law enforcement to maintain a successful prescription (Rx) disposal program. From October 2012 and continuing through the present, we collect an impressive amount of unwanted medications, totaling 605.2 pounds to date. This achievement showcases our community’s commitment to safe disposal practices and indicates growing participation. Our regular collection events spark public engagement and demonstrate that our efforts in education yield positive, measurable results.
Through continuous public education, community engagement, and easily accessible disposal options, our Rx disposal bin program actively fosters positive public health outcomes. We measure our impact by the total weight of medications safely disposed of, reflecting an engaged community dedicated to health and well-being. We increased our presence in the community by volunteering at various functions, providing valuable educational materials, displays, and incentives with prevention information at local events, including our annual Halloween on the Square, Clay County Health and Safety Day, and Drug Take Back Events and other events as they accrue.
Youth Engagement:
One of our most influential sectors is the Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) club, which is the largest student sector in our coalition. Each school year, approximately 30 students enthusiastically sign up, making the Clay County SADD club one of the only free clubs to join at Clay County High School. The club is student lead by the leadership team of students. They are engaging and empowered, meeting weekly, allowing students to actively participate in coalition meetings where they report on their prevention efforts and share ideas within the community. This involvement equips them with valuable speaking skills and nurtures their leadership abilities.
Community Partnerships:
In prioritizing strengthened partnerships, our media sector plays a crucial role by covering events and creating articles that showcase our work. As well as, collaborations with local pharmacies flourish as we supply lock boxes, pharmacy bags, and essential information needed for safe medication disposal.
Looking to the Future:
As our coalition evolves, we embrace the challenge of breaking the stigma surrounding addiction. New recovery efforts are taking shape, and we learn and grow through our experiences. We remain excited about the future, emboldened by our shared commitment to support individuals on their recovery journeys while continuing our educational missions. With hope and determination, we look forward to continuing our work and making a lasting impact on the Clay County community for years to come.
